Not only does the mind change every minute, the body also undergoes constant change. Hair grow and fall, skin gets renewed in 1 month,

Not only in the Upanishad but even in ancient Greek literature, the body is seen as a chariot owned by the soul. How can the journey of life take you to the intended destination if the chauffeur mind is not asking soul, the owner of the car – कहां चलूं सरकार?

In the Bhagavad Gita, a hierarchy of consciousness is provided. Senses are superior to objects and the mind is superior to the senses – इन्द्रियाणि पराण्याहुरिन्द्रियेभ्य: परं मन:। What value does a flower have, if you do not smell it? Of what value is music, if you don’t listen to it? Of what value is food, if you are not there to eat it? Everyone has their favorite color, flower and even animal.

The problem gets complicated here onwards. The intellect is superior to the mind, but the mind is seldom under the control of the intellect. Even the best of the intelligent people had messed up their lives by going against their souls. Of course, by this time, it is too late to correct one’s life.

Shakespeare has written that Everyone in his lifetime plays many parts, his acts being the seven stages – शिशु अवस्था, बचपन, किशोरावस्था, जवानी, प्रौढ़ावस्था, बुढ़ापा, और आखिर में, दुर्बलता और मृत्यु के सात किरदार निभाने हैं। Some may of course, exit early depending upon the purpose of the soul in that particular lifetime.

So, why not perform our parts well – say our lines loud and clear, emote our feelings well, and live out the scenes with conviction? American poet Edwin Markham said so beautifully: For all your days be prepared and meet them ever alike. When you are the anvil, bear—when you are the hammer, strike.”

The habitual failure to live in the present moment is the biggest killer of life and the possibilities of happiness. Show the courage to go through the discomfort and inconvenience of changing the way you have been living.

The soul is here to experience through your body-mind, the new aspects of life. Willingly accept this journey and allow it to happen.
